Dogs For Pets – Are They Really Man’s Best Friend?

You come home from a hard day at work and Fido is there to greet you all smiling and happy with no complaints, negative words or to-do lists. With this kind of a greeting, it’s no wonder that we love dogs for pets and it’s true that dog is man’s best friend, but are we our dogs best friends?

Dogs require little for care – a bit of attention, some exercise, nutritious food a visit to the vet every year and some proper grooming depending on the breed. Yet many dog owners can’t even manage to provide these small tokens to the dogs who love them. One only has to visit one of the many animal shelters to see that not every dog is loved and cared for.

But having dogs for pets can be a wonderful experience and there are many people who want to be responsible pet owners. For these people, caring for their dog is not a chore but a task they lovingly take on for their furry best friend.

If you want to have a dog for a pet, then you need to be prepared to provide adequate care. Luckily they need little – below are some of the things you need to consider for your pets care.

Food

A dog needs nutritious food to live a long and healthy life. Feeding him the cheapest brand of substandard food will only cost you money in the long run and could cost your dog his health and lead him to an early grave. Be sure to feed your dog a well-balanced diet, avoid people food, and go easy on the treats.

Training

A well trained dog is a pleasure to be around and you want to provide yours with some basic training so that he will not be a nuisance to people and other dogs as well as so that you can call them that should he be heading towards danger. Whether you train them yourself at home or take a training class in your town is neither here nor there. You will need to invest some time into the training, consider it time well spent bonding with your pet.

Grooming

Some breeds require more grooming than others. If you have a dog with long hair you’ll need to spend some time brushing him. But even if your dog has short hair, you want to provide him with some basic grooming tasks to keep them healthy. At the minimum, you want to brush his teeth and clean his ears.

Exercise

Every dog, no matter how small, needs exercise and this means that you’ll need to be prepared to walk your dog in all kinds of weather. No matter how tired you are after work, you must commit to taking your dog out for a walk – you probably could use the exercise yourself anyway!

Health Care

You’ll need to get a good veterinarian for your dog and make sure that you bring him once a year for checkups and more often as your vet recommends. Keep a close eye and your pet and if you notice any health issues or changes make sure that you get into that right away so that the appropriate treatment can be administered.

When you make a commitment to have dogs for pets, you make a commitment that last several decades. Treat your dog like you would your best friend and you have a loyal and loving companion for a long, long time.
